Athletic Association
It is the philosophy of the Saint Jerome School that sports are a fundamental ingredient of education. Organized athletic activities assist in the physical and intellectual development of the student and play a foundational role in developing skills for good sportsmanship, discipline and team building. All students are encouraged to participate in athletics and the activities supported by the Athletic Program. The Saint Jerome Athletic Association (SJAA) consists of members of the Saint Jerome community who are willing to be engaged and focus their volunteer efforts on the athletic program. The SJAA meets on call of its President and is responsible for such things as gym and field procurement, Parochial League coordination, fundraising and assistance at athletic events. Membership is open to all Saint Jerome School parents, parishioners and other interested adults, regardless of their child’s participation in sports. The SJAA President responds directly to the Principal of the Saint Jerome School.
Mission
The mission of the Saint Jerome Athletic Association is to provide a medium for supporting our student-athletes with a structured, organized and unified voice consistent with the ideals and values of the Saint Jerome School. Mission oversight is provided by a Governing Board which focuses on matters relating to all athletics, the coaches and volunteers involved with the Athletic Program at the School.
Physicals
School physicals are required for students entering Kindergarten, in the 4th and 7th grades and those who wish to participate in the sports program. Physicals must be conducted by the student’s own physician and documentation must be sent to the School on the Health Examination Form. Physicals are good for one year from the date of examination. If a physical expires during the sport season, it must be renewed before continued participation will be allowed. If you need additional information regarding these requirements, please contact the school nurse.
Coaches
Coaches for the sports teams at Saint Jerome are volunteer positions and are selected based on experience, interest and commitment. Those interested in coaching availability may get further information from the Athletic Director. We encourage parents and children to be part of the SJS Angels experience as well. Parent volunteers offer a huge resource and support base for our school and sports programs while at the same time showing their students the importance of participating in a faith-based community like the Saint Jerome parish.
